Description
An activist in the civil rights movement, Bond had been publicity director for the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). He was denied his seat in the Georgia legislature for his opposition to the Vietnam War. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the legislature could not bar him from serving because of his opinions. Bond continues to be an outspoken public figure: defeated for Congress by John Lewis, a co-founder of SNCC, in 1986, Bond narrated the PBS series 'Eyes on the Prize'".
